The end of summer in Vermont can be a little bittersweet. Shorter days mean less time for gardening and outdoor recreation, but for those Vermonters who are weary of hot, humid weather, the early signs of fall are welcome.
We New Englanders – particularly Vermonters – are used to sharing our glorious foliage season with thousands of visitors. The 2012 season promises to be a great year for foliage. Experts say that the best color results from a growing season with abundant moisture followed by a dry, cool and sunny autumn with warm days and cool but frostless nights. The 2012 wet spring provided leaves with an ample supply of chlorophyll, so we are hoping for cooler temperatures to start setting good color for this year’s season.
There are many ways to view autumn colors: hiking on a beautiful trail, taking a scenic drive – or going on a train ride. The White River Flyer offers regular trips along the scenic Connecticut River, where the brilliant fall colors are reflected in the peaceful water.
Join us for the Glory Days dinner train on September 7th – but hurry! Seating is limited. Or order your tickets for a ride later in the season. Weekend trips fill up fast, so be sure to reserve early – and then have fun planning your visit for the 2012 foliage season.
We look forward to seeing you!
